STEM, Smiles & Superpowers at SciFest@TCPID
Regent House in Trinity College Dublin was alive with enthusiasm, pride, and pure joy on 29 May 2025, as the annual SciFest@TCPID event unfolded. In the five weeks leading up to the celebration, dedicated mentors from Abbott worked closely with students from the Trinity Centre for People with Intellectual Disabilities (TCPID) to develop their SciFest STEM projects. The event marked the culmination of their inspiring collaboration and we had the privilege of witnessing the remarkable results.
Eight brilliant projects were presented, each one a testament to the creativity, curiosity, and commitment of both the students and their mentors:
🐶 Ava : 'Stages in Breeding Golden Retrievers'
🕸️ Alex: 'Marvelous Minds”: Exploring the Impact of Marvel Films on Creativity and Imagination'
🐭 Rhys: 'The History of the Science of Animation'
🦈 Robert: 'Shark Facts'
🦉 Conor: 'The Biology of Owls'
🖥️ Thomas: 'The Psychology of Video Gaming'
⛵ Alex: 'Sails Force'
🤘 Orla: 'The Science Behind Irish Sign Language (ISL)'
A huge congratulations to Ava, Alex, Rhys, Robert, Conor, Thomas, Alex, and Orla, and to their dedicated Abbott mentors. Their passion and teamwork made this event truly special. It was lovely also to see so many TCPID alumni returning to visit, a real reminder of the strong sense of community that lives on beyond graduation.
Thank you to TCPID and Abbott for welcoming SciFest and for supporting inclusive STEM education in such a meaningful way. What a wonderful celebration of learning and collaboration!
