National Final Awards 2019


Awards Presented at the SciFest 2019 National Final

SciFest 2019 Science Foundation Ireland ISEF Award. Trophy and an all-expenses-paid trip for the winning student to represent Ireland at the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Anaheim, California in May 2020. Sponsored by Science Foundation Ireland.

Broadcom MASTERS Award. Trophy and an all-expenses-paid trip for the winning student to represent Ireland at the Broadcom MASTERS International programme, including attendance at Intel ISEF, in Anaheim, California in May 2020. The student will be accompanied by their parent/guardian. This award was available only to individual winners of the ISTA award at the regional finals who are under 15 years of age in May 2020. Berlin Long Night of Science Award. Trophy and an all-expenses-paid trip for the winning students and their teacher to attend the Long Night of Science in Berlin in June 2020. Supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Boston Scientific Medical Devices Grand Award. Trophy and €500. Sponsored by Boston Scientific Galway. This award was only available to winners of the regional Boston Scientific Medical Devices Award. A panel of judges selected the top five of the winning projects to compete for the Grand Award at the National Final.

Specsavers Making a Difference Grand Award. Trophy and an all-expenses-paid trip for the winning student and her teacher to visit the Big Bang Science Event in Bermingham in March 2020 as guests of Specsavers. Sponsored by Specsavers. This award was only available to winners of the regional Specsavers Making a Difference Award. A panel of judges selected the top seven of the winning projects to compete for the Grand Award at the National Final.

Intel Technology Award. Trophy and €500. Sponsored by Intel.

The Society for Science & the Public Award for Community Innovation. Trophy and $500. Sponsored byThe Society for Science & the Public (USA).

SciFest STEM Outreach Award. Trophy and €300. National finalists were invited to submit a short video of their project. These videos were posted to the web where they could be voted on by members of the public. The project receiving the highest number of votes (11 766 votes) received the award. As only a very small number of votes separated the two top videos a runner-up award was also presented this year.

Abbott Ireland Life Sciences Award. Trophy and €150. Sponsored by Abbott Ireland.

THEA Award. Trophy and €75. Sponsored by the Technological Higher Education Association.

ISTA Award. Trophy and €75. Sponsored by the Irish Science Teachers' Association.

SciFest Scientist of the Future Award. Trophy and €75.

Excellence in STEM Awards. Engraved plaques.

Teacher of Excellence Award. This award was presented to the teacher of the student who won the SciFest 2019 Science Foundation Ireland ISEF Award. The winning teacher receives an all-expenses-paid trip to attend the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Anaheim, California in May 2020. Sponsored by Science Foundation Ireland.
