Awards Presented at the SciFest 2018 National Final

SciFest 2018 Science Foundation Ireland Intel ISEF Award. Trophy and an all-expenses-paid trip for the winning student(s) to represent Ireland at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Phoenix, Arizona, in May 2019. Sponsored by Science Foundation Ireland.

Broadcom MASTERS Award. Trophy and an all-expenses-paid trip for the winning student to represent Ireland at the Broadcom MASTERS International programme, including attendance at Intel ISEF, in Phoenix, Arizona in May 2019. The student will be accompanied by their parent/guardian. This award was available only to individual winners of the ISTA award at the regional finals who are under 15 years of age in May 2019. Berlin Long Night of Science Award. Trophy and an all-expenses-paid trip for the winning student(s) and their teacher to attend the Long Night of Science in Berlin in June 2019. Supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

SciFest STEM Outreach Award. Engraved trophy and €300. National finalists were invited to submit a short video of their project. These videos were posted to the web where they could be voted on by members of the public. The project receiving the highest number of votes received the award.

The Abbott Ireland Life Sciences Award. Engraved trophy and €150. Sponsored by Abbott Ireland.

THEA Award. Engraved trophy and €75. Sponsored by the Technological Higher Education Association.

ISTA Award. Engraved trophy and €75. Sponsored by the Irish Science Teachers' Association.

SciFest Scientist of the Future Award. Engraved trophy and €75.

Excellence in STEM Awards. Engraved plaques.

Intel Teacher of Excellence Award. This award was presented to the teacher of the student who won the SciFest 2018 Science Foundation Ireland Intel ISEF Award. The winning teacher receives an all-expenses-paid trip to attend the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Phoenix, Arizona, in May 2019. Sponsored by Science Foundation Ireland.

Additional Award

Boston Scientific Medical Devices Grand Award. Engraved trophy and an award to the value of €500. Sponsored by Boston Scientific Galway.

This award was only available to winners of the regional Boston Scientific Medical Devices Award. Competitors for the Boston Scientific Medical Devices Grand Award were pre-selected on the basis of their project report books. Following the completion of the regional SciFest@College 2018 STEM fairs the winners of the Boston Scientific Medical Devices award at these fairs were requested to forward their project report books to SciFest CLG. A panel of judges representing SciFest and Boston Scientific assessed the projects, based on the report books, and selected six projects to go forward to compete for the Boston Scientific Medical Devices Grand Award at the National Final 2018.
