The SciFest 2019 Final is on Friday!

The SciFest 2019 National Final in Association with Science Foundation Ireland will take place in the Marino Conference Centre in Drumcondra on 22 November.

The 2019 National Final marks the culmination of the 14th successful year of the SciFest programme, a year which saw a record number of over 10,000 students participating in local and regional SciFest STEM fairs across the country. Since launching in 2006, more than 70,000 students have participated in the competition, representing an average year-on-year increase of almost 20% in participation.

Richard Bruton T.D., Minister for Communication, Climate Action and Environment will open the exhibition. The award ceremony will take place at 2 pm and will be streamed live through the SciFest Facebook page. The top prize, the SciFest 2019 SFI ISEF Award will be presented to the winning student/s by Margie McCarthy, Head of Education and Public Engagement, Science Foundation Ireland.

Awards to be presented on the day include:

    • SciFest 2019 SFI ISEF Award. Trophy and an all-expenses-paid trip for the winning student(s) to represent Ireland at the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Anaheim, California in May 2020. Sponsored by Science Foundation Ireland.
    • Teacher of Excellence Award. Trophy and an all-expenses-paid trip to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Anaheim, California in May 2020 for the teacher of the SFI ISEF Award winner(s).
    • Broadcom MASTERS Award. Trophy and an all-expenses-paid trip for the winning student, accompanied by a parent/guardian, to participate in the Broadcom MASTERS International Programme, including a visit to the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Anaheim, California in May 2020. Sponsored by Broadcom.
    • Berlin Long Night of Science Award. Trophy and an all-expenses-paid trip for the winning student(s) and their teacher to attend the Long Night of Science in Berlin in June 2020. Supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
    • Boston Scientific Medical Devices Grand Award. Engraved trophy and €500. Sponsored by Boston Scientific.
    • Specsavers Grand Award. Engraved trophy and an all-expenses-paid trip for the winning student(s) and their teacher to attend The Big Bang in Birmingham in March 2020. Sponsored by Specsavers.
    • Intel Technology Award. Engraved trophy and €500. Sponsored by Intel.
    • The Society for Science & the Public Award for Community Innovation. Engraved trophy and $500. Sponsored by The Society for Science & the Public (USA).
    • SciFest STEM Outreach Award. Engraved trophy and €300.
