Senior SciFest School Liaison Officer Appointed

SciFest is delighted to announce the appointment of a Senior School Liaison Officer, Dr Billy Fleming. Billy joined the company in July 2022. Having qualified as a teacher in London in 2011 Billy has worked in Europe, the Middle East and most recently in Woodbrook College, Bray. He has a PhD and a BSc in chemistry from University College Dublin and has worked in the chemical industry. Billy is currently an examiner for the International Baccalaureate Organisation and is a member of the Associate Team of the National Induction Programme for Teachers.
Billy will be working closely with the Medtronic Foundation to bring SciFest to DEIS schools around Ireland.

With our expanded team, SciFest can now offer additional supports to teachers in DEIS schools who wish to run a fair for their students, including:

  • School visits by a member of the SciFest team. A member of our team can visit your school to give practical guidance on the running of a successful SciFest@School event and to support students with their projects.
  • Professional development opportunities. SciFest will run a number of CPD events to support DEIS school teachers to get the most out of their SciFest@School STEM fair.
  • Resources: The SciFest website is full of excellent resources to help you and your students have a great fair. There you will find classroom support materials, guidance, examples of projects from around Ireland and a whole lot more.
  • A bursary for participating DEIS schools to purchase additional materials to support their STEM fair.

As in previous years SciFest will provide prizes and rosettes for winning projects and certificates and ‘freebies’ for all participating students.

A SciFest@School STEM fair is a great way to engage students in inquiry-based learning. At Junior Cycle it fits neatly with the Nature of Science component of Science and the Unifying Strand of Maths and makes an engaging Transition Year module

To learn more about the SciFest@School programme please visit the SciFest website. For further information on the supports available for DEIS schools hosting a SciFest@School fair please email billy.fleming@scifest.ie.

To register your SciFest@School fair please download a registration form from the SciFest website and, as in previous years, return the completed form to me at sheila.porter@scifest.ie or to info@scifest.ie
