EirGrid Joins Intel Ireland and Boston Scientific as a SciFest Project Partner

SciFest is delighted to announce that EirGrid is extending its partnership with SciFest to join Intel and Boston Scientific as a SciFest Project Partner. The good news was announced at the launch of SciFest 2023 which took place on the first February in Clogher Road Community College, Dublin 12.

Following a successful year as a SciFest@School Gold Sponsor, which saw over 25 projects in schools across the country winning the EirGrid Climate and Delivering a Cleaner Energy Future award, SciFest announced that the award will now be extended to the SciFest@College programme, and the SciFest National Final.

The EirGrid Climate and Delivering a Cleaner Energy Future award, is designed to raise awareness in second-level students of the need for climate action and to encourage them to become catalysts for change with regards to the most important issue facing the world today.

In addition to the EirGrid Climate and Delivering a Cleaner Future award SciFest also announced that the theme for Scifest 2023 would be 'Climate Action'. This will further encourage students to investigate the causes and impacts of climate change and to come up with some possible solutions to what is already affecting the lives of billions of people around the world.

Speaking about the expanded partnership, Doireann Barry, Head of Strategy and Sustainability with EirGrid, said: “Leading on sustainability and decarbonisation is central to our strategy. By extending this partnership with SciFest, we want to continue to provide a space for second level students to explore and develop their ideas for a cleaner energy future, as we work to transition to low carbon, renewable energy.”

SciFest CEO, Sheila Porter said: “We are excited that EirGrid is extending its partnership with SciFest to include the regional fairs and National Final. SciFest plays an important role in encouraging students to investigate the causes and impacts of climate change, and in providing them with the skills and motivation to seek solutions. Our extended partnership with EirGrid will encourage increasing numbers of students to address the challenges posed by climate change.”
