The SciFest@College 2014 programme has now been completed with the last regional event, SciFest@NorthWest in St Mary's College, Derry, taking place on 6 June and the National Final on 7 November. This year's programme was once more a huge success with a further increase in projects exhibited, students and teachers participating and schools represented.
In addition to the increase in participation in the SciFest@College programme this year has seen a further dramatic increase in the number of schools hosting their own in-school SciFest@School science fairs and sending on their best projects to the next level. In all some 35 schools hosted SciFest@School science fairs this year, an increase of just under 60% on last year. As well as giving more students the opportunity to participate in SciFest this also has the effect of further raising the standard of the projects exhibited at SciFest@College events. In all, over 6,000 students participated in the 2014 SciFest programme.
The SciFest 2014 programme reached its climax on Friday 7 November when the National Final was held in the Marino Conference Centre in Dublin 9. The 15 winners from the SciFest@College events competed for the top prize of an all-expenses-paid trip to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in May 2015 to represent Ireland at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF).
Planning is already well under way for SciFest@College 2015. A number of colleges have already decided on the date for their event. Details of the dates and contacts for the SciFest@College 2015 science fairs will be posted here as they become available.
